If you’re living in East Gwillimbury or Newmarket and have ever woken up with a stiff neck or felt persistent tension after a long day at the computer, you’re not alone. Neck pain is extremely common and at Holland Landing Health Centre, we understand how frustrating it can be. That’s why our East Gwillimbury and Newmarket chiropractic services combine gentle manual care, posture education, and guided exercise to help you recover and stay well.
What Does Research Show?
Recent studies suggest that spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), including neck adjustments or mobilizations, can help reduce neck pain and disability, especially when used as part of a broader treatment plan. A 2023 meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that cervical SMT was associated with reduced pain and improved function both in the short-term and longer-term. Moreover, combining manual therapy with exercise appears to offer benefits beyond SMT or mobilization alone.
A well-cited review concluded that for mechanical neck pain (acute or chronic), the mix of manipulation or mobilization plus exercise consistently yielded reduced pain and better overall function, which was often superior to passive care alone or no treatment.
That said, a 2024 systematic review comparing cervical manipulations with thoracic or cervicothoracic manipulations found no clear difference in outcomes (pain, disability, motion) between techniques. This suggests there may not be a “one-size-fits-all” approach, which is why individualized care plans matter so much.

At our centre we believe in balanced, evidence-informed care. Our East Gwillimbury and Newmarket chiropractic services are not about a “one-time quick fix.” Instead, we focus on:
- Gentle mobilization or adjustments to relieve stiffness and restore mobility (when appropriate and safe)
- Posture education to help you understand how everyday habits (desk work, smartphone use, sleep position) affect your neck, and how to counter those effects
- Tailored exercise and strengthening programs to improve neck stability, support muscles, and reduce future flare-ups We aim for lasting improvement, including reduced pain and improved function and quality of life. Many patients tell us they feel stronger, more stable, and more confident about their neck and spine health after a few weeks of care.
