The Unexpected Benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture

My main focus as a naturopathic doctor is treating mental health conditions like anxiety. For this reason, some of my patients are surprised when they find out that I also do cosmetic acupuncture. Mental health and cosmetic concerns seem like they’re on the opposite ends of the health spectrum. So why do I do it?

One reason is that it’s just plain fun. It’s super satisfying to see fine lines become less deep, acne scars fade and skin become more vibrant and firm.

But there’s something about offering cosmetic acupuncture that also rewards the side of me that’s passionate about mental health. Whenever I do cosmetic acupuncture, I also add in body points as well. I add in points that help with overall circulation in the skin and also overall relaxation and well-being. At the end of sessions, a lot of my patients tell me that they felt a deep relaxation during the session and that it was so nice to lie still for a while in a dim room with some calm music playing in the background. For many, it’s a rare opportunity to rest from a hectic schedule.

I love that I’m able to provide this sanctuary for patients – even if it’s just once or twice a week.

Patients also tell me that the non-cosmetic benefits extend beyond just the one hour session. They tell me that they’re sleeping better and that they feel calmer and more at ease. Often working on cosmetic concerns with my patients inspires a desire to improve self care in areas beyond the surface. It opens a window to working on other areas of health and well-being. Something about getting serious about taking care of our skin inspires us to take care of our overall health. I’ve always found this to be the case for myself and I know I’m not alone.

Healthy, refreshed skin is tied to the health of the rest of our body and our mind. While you may come to me wanting cosmetic acupuncture, don’t be surprised if more than just your skin gets transformed. If you’re curious about cosmetic acupuncture, send me an email or book a free 15-minute consultation.
