Migraine sufferers can attest to how debilitating their headaches can be.
Typical characteristics (as described in a previous blog post) include the following:
Recurrent, moderate-severe headaches:
– Headaches lasting up to 4-72 hours
– Throbbing pain located over one side of the head
– Associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, light or noise sensitivity and/or visual disturbance (aura).
There are many treatment options for migraine sufferers, however recent literature found that electro-acupuncture demonstrated clinically significant improvements and prevention for migraine sufferers. This included diminished frequency, length & intensity of headaches.
Interestingly electro-acupuncture also demonstrated a beneficial change in the emotional quality of life of the patient as well.
Furthermore, it was found that, in terms of pain, electroacupuncture has been shown to demonstrate greater benefits then acupuncture alone, as well as provide a longer lasting benefit, lasting up to 24 weeks.
